I’ve become a little obsessed with the Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Frankincense skincare range. I love frankincense, the scent takes me back to Christmas and skincare specialists have been raving about the miracles it is capable of on dry, maturing skin.
And what’s not to love about the very English Neal’s Yard Remedies? Created in the very scenic Covent Garden in central London, the brand has held its stance against the synthetic chemical approach to beauty since its beginnings in 1981.
I have been using a few of the products from their Frankincense range. You might have read my review on their Frankincense Hydrating Mist here. Today we’re looking at the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum.
Firstly, I love the look and feel of the packaging! The deep blue glass bottles give out a very altruistic, almost rustic vibe and bring to mind traditional apothecary practices when natural skincare came in robust, reusable packaging. It all fits in beautifully with the concept behind the Neal’s Yard Remedies brand.
Having a product to hydrate both eyes and lips was a novel concept to me. Any 2-in-1 that saves me time sounds like a great idea!
Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum comes in a tiny 10 ml glass bottle with an easy-to-use pump dispenser.
The packaging states that the product is free of silicones, synthetic fragrances and colors, and has no parabens or added mineral oils.
It also says that the serum is suitable for all skin types, however the ingredients listed include traces of nuts and seeds that may not make it ideal for very sensitive skin-types.
Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum promises to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and rejuvenate tired, puffy eyes.
The key ingredients are:
- Frankincense essential oil to combat wrinkles and fine lines
- Baobab oil for boosting skin elasticity
- Nutrient-rich marine algae for firming and smoothing the skin
- Tri-peptides for collagen stimulation
Interestingly, unlike many other Neal’s Yard Remedies products that highlight the percentage of organic ingredients in the mix (for example the Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Hydrating Facial Mist box states it is 98% organic), the Eye & Lip Serum has no percentages mentioned. The packaging just says ‘Certified Organic Ingredients”. It was through a Google hunt that I found out this serum is only 49% organic.
The serum is tinged a pale yellow, and has the thick consistency of a rich face cream. When I hear ‘serum’ I usually envisage a clear gel, so I was a little skeptical about this product and only used it at night before bedtime (the thought of greasy under-eyes during the day somehow appalls me!).
However, after my second night of dabbing the serum on my eyes and lips, I was confident enough to use it by day. The serum might look rich, and definitely feels rich and hydrating on application, but it manages to absorb into the skin fairly quickly and even allows for makeup application on top.
Compared to the other products I have tried from this range, the Eye & Lip Serum does not have much of a Frankincense scent which is a pity as I love it.
I have been using Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum for over two weeks now.
Does it do a good job at ironing out wrinkles? Thankfully I do not have many lines to combat (yet!) but on application the delicate skin around the eyes does feel tighter and firmer.
As for the product’s rejuvenating powers, I would say it fares pretty well. I’ve been having many late nights this week. A dab of Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum around the eyes in the morning keeps me going that little bit longer, and I do not reapply the serum till bedtime.
Application of the serum is easy. After washing, and cleansing, I apply a pump of serum onto the boney socket area under my eyes and follow up with sunscreen if I’m going out.
Beauty Tip: Always use your ring finger for applying products under the delicate eye area. The ring finger exerts the least amount of pressure when compared to the other fingers.
I would recommend trying out this product as an eye serum, but for the lips, I am not as convinced.
If you tend to have dry, chapped lips this serum is does not cut it on its own. Also, priced at AED 140 for a tiny 10 ml, Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum will not be taking over my cheaper, glossier, moisturizing grocery-bought lip-balms.
Overall, I would say Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Rejuvenating Frankincense Eye & Lip Serum works wonderfully as an under-eye serum. It rejuvenates tired, puffy eyes almost instantly, and is a must-try for organic-beauty fans.
I’ll be back with more review on Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Frankincense skincare range. Stay tuned!
