If there is one great makeup news so far this year, it has to be the launch of Lime Crime in Sephora! I’ve been an avid fan of the brand ever since I found them online via Pinterest, and have been buying their products from the States ever since. So glad we can now get our Lime Crime fix right here at our friendly neighborhood Sephora branch!
Lime Crime has been pioneers in many ways. They brought in the whole concept of matte lips, and their lipstick shades are anything but conventional. And then there’s their iconic Venus palette…
In a world of nudes and smokey-eyes, Lime Crime created this absolutely stunning masterpiece. The Venus palette offers 8 full-sized eye-shadows ranging from earthy tones to unconventional neutrals and rusty reds.
The palette takes inspiration from Mash Botticelli’s classical painting and combines it with the rebellion of the early 90s. Add the two together and you get Venus; the Grunge palette!
I am a sucker for pretty packaging, and the Vnus palette has to be one of the prettiest makeup kits I own! Showcasing Venus, the Roman goddess of love, on the front, the hard cardboard box is playfully colorful, kitschy and very compact.
The packaging includes a generously sized mirror, and an easy to close magnetic clasping. It fits into a travel bag easily, although I prefer not to carry palettes around on a daily basis lest I have a smash-up.
The Shades of Venus
Here’s a color swatch of the Lime Crime Venus palette:
First off, the colors are beautifully pigmented, and super easy to blend. I do tend to get a powder pickup when I get my brush into the palette, but the fall out is very minimal. Best of all, I have found the shades last me a good 8 hours (through a day at work), even without the use of an eye-shadow primer.
VENUS: A marsala velvet matte, with a very slight hint of shimmer. It has a near-satin finish and gives off a gorgeous shade of burgundy red.
SHELL: A very pretty peachy/coral pink shade with a shimmery finish.
AURA: A stunningly shimmery pearly shade that catches the light beautifully. Works well as a highlighter on the brow line.
CREATION: A matte rust brown which works well as a base for many different looks.
ICON: A dark chocolate brown with a hint of golden shimmer. Ideal for the lower lash line, and for creating a smokey eye.
REBIRTH: A gorgeous, cheerfully bright coral with a matte finish. This is quite an unusual shade for an eye-shadow, and really perks up any look.
DIVINE: A neutral matte brown that works well for a natural look, or as a shadow for the crease line.
MUSE: An absolutely stunning deep burgundy red in matte finish. So renaissance, so rebelliously different!
It’s very rare to find an eye-shadow palette where I like every single shade. The Lime Crime Venus palette is a first for me. Every single shade is usable! Absolutely worth the investment!
