Green Coffee: For Weight Loss, Health & Wellness

Health freaks have been drinking gallons of green tea for a while now, but have you heard of green coffee? Green coffee has become quite the buzzword in the world of weight-loss campaigns, yet this gimmick-like stance has a whole lot of scientific backing to go with it… as well as an impressive list of health-enhancing benefits.

I have been sipping on cups of Qafe Green Coffee, an instant green coffee scientifically developed by QNET, a health and wellness conglomerate based in Hong Kong. Read on to learn more about green coffee, and perhaps you would like to give it a go for yourself.

What is Green Coffee?

The coffee bean is naturally green. What makes the beans take on its more popular form is the process of roasting. Green coffee is created from unroasted coffee bean extracts that are soaked, and made into a concentrate.

The Health & Wellness Claims of Green Coffee

  • CGA (Chlorogenic Acid): Green coffee beans are naturally rich is CGA, but a significant amount is lost in the roasting process. Green coffee retains the CGA content, which facilitates the body’s ability to burn fat for energy. The lipotropic value of chlorogenic acid efficiently increases the utilisation of carbohydrates and fats, thereby aiding weight loss.
  • Rich in Antioxidants: Green coffee beans and their derived products contain many forms of antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that reduce the effects of cell-damaging free radicals in the body. This preventative function keeps the body healthier by reducing the amount of damage and stress the cells can take.
  • Reduces Blood Pressure: CGA has been clinically proven to be an effective, natural means of reducing blood pressure.
  • Cancer Prevention: CGA is very rich in antioxidants. According to a study published in July 2004 in the “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry,” chlorogenic acid antioxidants in green coffee beans could prevent the proliferation of four kinds of cancer cells, suggesting green coffee may be useful in preventing some types of cancer.
  • Improved Cognitive Performance: Consuming 1 to 3 cups of green coffee a day has been clinically linked to overall positivity, alertness, focus and cognitive health.

How is Qafe Different?

Developed and exclusively distributed by QNET in Hong Kong using premium ingredients from France, Qafe Green Coffee is an instant brew that simply requires the addition of hot water and a quick stir.

“Qafé is formulated with the most powerful weight loss ingredient- the green coffee bean. The prebiotic fibres in Qafé promote growth of good bacteria and hence blocks additional calories. Hence it gives you an edge in your quest to live a healthy and active life.” – Haldun Arin, Chief Executive Officer, QNET.

Qafe is a natural brew, created from unroasted Robusta coffee bean extracts. Like all forms of green coffee, the unroasted beans contain a high level of CGA or ‘chlorogenic acid’, known to effectively regulate weight management and contain natural antioxidant compounds. Qafe claims to contain a whopping 53% of CGA.

Unlike regular green coffees, Qafe has been enriched with Nutriose® (or wheat dextrin). This is an essential nutrient that helps to regulate gastrointestinal movement, the assimilation of high calorie foods and the absorption of fats. Nutriose® is a natural gluten-free wheat derivative with a prebiotic fibre that is believed to have a positive effects on weight management. Nutriose® offers excellent digestive tolerance which is essential for a healthy digestive system.

Tezzy’s Experience with Qafe

Over the past year or so, I have developed a liking for black coffee sans any milk or sugar. Going black has made me a coffee connoisseur of sorts; when you develop a preference for the brew all by itself, you develop the ability to differentiate the flavors on different levels.

According to packaging instructions, Qafe is had sans milk or sugar. To have it ‘naked’, without being overshadowed by creamy sweetness, told me the brew must be pretty flavorful all on its own.

NOTE: The weight-loss benefits associated with green coffee and green tea extracts are greatly reduced when you mix the extracts with milk and sugar.[8-9] Additionally, research suggests that protein consumption can have an inhibitory effect on their absorption.10 Therefore, benefits of GTE and GCE may be maximized when consumed with water 2-3 hours before or after a meal. – excerpt taken from bodybuilding.com

Qafe gives out that aromatic scent of brewed coffee, although it is not as pronounced as your regular roasted varieties. But how does green coffee taste, you ask? It is a mild brew, light and flavorful with a hint of citrus tartness that I love.

The coffee itself is a deep, dark brown (no, it isn’t green!). If you are a coffee fiend, don’t expect to find your caffeine hit with this one. Green coffee will not keep you as wide awake through the night.

If you are having Qafe for weight-loss, the recommended dosage is 2 cups a day (one in the morning, and the other after lunch or mid-afternoon).

I found little change in my weight (blame it on the festive December season!). My weight being on quilibrium over a very indulgent December is a miracle in itself, and I guess it is the Qafe Green Coffee I have to thank for that!

A cup of Qafe in the morning made me feel far more alert and refreshed, and having developed a taste for this brew, I would look forward to my cuppa as a special treat. Now I desperately need to restock… and this time round, I plan to combine it with a sensible, healthier eating plan and a bout of exercise. Wish me luck!
