BECCA Lowlight Highlight Perfecting Palette Review

Contouring and highlighting is here to stay. Struggling to achieve the perfect balance of chiseled and glowing? I have a secret to share with you… I am absolutely obsessed with the BECCA Lowlight Highlight Perfecting Palette. This powder palette features a ‘highlight’ and ‘lowlight’ for adding light and shadows to bring out the best in your features. Being powder-based, the colours can be worked up to go dramatic for a night out or subtle enough to use on  daily basis.

The BECCA Lowlight Highlight Perfecting Palette has become a staple in my makeup bag. It is so convenient having a contouring and highlighting product in one sleek, attractive palette, complete with a convenient built-in mirror.

The beauty market is flooded with contouring and highlighting palettes, most of which have four to six shades included. What I like about this particular product is that it includes just two shades, all that I require on a daily basis. Both shades work beautifully on my complexion:

The Lowlight:

This deep brown contouring powder translates to a darker shade than it looks in the palette. The powder itself is luxuriously soft and very highly pigmented. You only need a little tap of the makeup brush on this one.

The colour intensity has its advantages and disadvantages. First off, it does a great job at lasting all day, even in through the humid UAE summers. However, if you are a contouring novice or have a heavy hand with the makeup brush, the stark colour lines can be a little tricky to blend in.

Being a darker shade, this works very well for olive to darker skin tones. The contrast of the deep brown with the glow of the highlight, makes adding shadows and light to the features an absolute breeze.

The Highlight:

There is no doubt on the fact that Becca does amazing highlighter products.

This palette has the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal, and wow does it highlight! If you are looking for a product to really add oomph to your highlighting game, this is the highlighter for you. If you’re more of a sheen person, you might want to tone it down with more of the ‘lowlight’.

Highly pigmented, you only need a light, single swoop of your makeup brush with this one. The powder itself is very soft and blends in beautifully, but you really do need just a wee bit or you can end up looking like an ’80’s disco ball.

The colour of this highlighter is best described as a pale gold. The pigmentation and shine is very similar to the cult favorite Becca C-Pop, but this ‘highlight’ has more of a pinkish rose tint to it which I love.

I go light on the highlighter for a day look, and really like to vamp it up for a night out. It looks absolutely stunning when it catches the light, and gives the wearer a very believable luminosity.

Why I Love the BECCA Lowlight Highlight Perfecting Palette

  • Having a contouring and highlighting product in one compact palette is very convenient.
  • Both the lowlight and highlight are very intensely pigmented. You can go dramatic, or blend in for a more subtle look.
  • A little goes a long way, so this palette is going to last me quite a long time!
  • It comes with a built-in mirror for added convenience.

The Negatives

  • Although the gunmetal casing looks very chic, it is an absolute fingerprint magnet and needs a wipe-down ever so often.
  • The clasp to open the casing is a little stiff, and I’ve ruined a manicure on it.
  • It doesn’t come with a brush. However, I prefer using this product with my favorite BECCA The One Perfecting Brush.
