Silver Fox is an American chain of fine-dining steakhouses, and the one located on City Walk, Dubai is their very first franchise outside the States.
Silver Fox is a very premium steakhouse. They differentiate themselves by serving USDA prime beef, and this warrants a higher menu pricing. Top that with uber-chic interiors and impeccable service, and expect fine-dining at its very best.
What is USDA Prime beef you ask? Only 2% of the world’s beef is graded USDA Prime. The beef’s superior quality is evident in its abundant marbling that gives the meat it’s signature melt-in-the-mouth tenderness and full-bodied flavor.
Hubby and I dined at Silver Fox on Monday night when the UAE was drenched in unexpected rainfall. The weather made it the perfect setting for an indulgent steak dinner.
The interiors are stylishly modern with a very chic blend of leather and tasteful chrome.
The tables are laid with beautifully starched white tablecloths. I liked the look of the sleek black and chrome salt and pepper duos on each table, and how they subtly complimented the black leather upholstery, and even menu cover.
Silver Fox has a live fire feature near the entrance, and this gives the ambience an added element of interest.
Silver Fox has unmatched service, and this is what puts them in the ‘fine dining’ category. Our waitress was well-versed on the menu options and made many helpful suggestions.
We were a table of two, but were attended to by a crew of six different staff members. However, they were far from intrusive. The staff seem to be well-trained on the fine art of acting invisible and magically reappearing when needed.
Our table was cleared and refreshed with fresh cutlery after every course, and the service was very prompt and polished. It was almost like the staff were treading on tiptoes!
For drinks, I ordered Silver Fox’s signature shake and hubby went for a Berry Fizz.
The signature Silver Fox drink is a delicious sweet treat! It is a blend of coffee beans and coconut milk. A few strands of freshly grated coconut have been thrown in for added body. However, if you are going the whole yard and opting for a full-course meal, this is a very heavy drink that will easily put your appetite on a halt. Sip with caution!
The Berry Fizz is a blend of berry juices blended into sparkling soda. Hubby found this too ‘feminine’ and we ended up swapping drinks. It sure is a pretty drink! I found it ‘berry’ refreshing, and wished the glass was deeper.
For appetizers, we ordered the Beef Croustades and the Seafood Medley.
The Beef Croustades are four perfectly proportioned beef medallions sitting on crisp, generously buttered garlic-bread, and topped with the most delectable Hollandaise sauce.
The beef was deliciously succulent, and the crunch of the garlic bread along with the creamy understated tang of the Hollandaise made this dish a delight to eat.
The Seafood Medley consisted of two jumbo shrimps, a Crabcake St. Francis, and a pan-fried scallop.
Each jumbo shrimp came with its own sauce topping. One had Hollandaise, and the other had Silver Fox’s ‘Cocktail Sauce’. Our waitress explained the cocktail sauce was a special blend of chili sauce, ketchup, lemon juice and shallots. I’d like to have this sauce bottled and poured over everything I eat! It is deliciously hot with a hint of an exotic, Far Eastern flavor.
The Crabcake St. Francis was deliciously moist and succulent, and the scallop just melted in the mouth. There was only one piece of each on the Seafood Medley platter, if only we didn’t have to share!
Cooking seafood to perfection is a science in itself, and the Seafood Medley gives proof of Silver Fox’s overall culinary expertise despite having a reputation centered around great steaks.
Next came the soup. We opted for the French Onion Soup.
Silver Fox’s French Onion Soup comes in a very generously sized bowl along with crusty bread and a platter of butter.
This is the perfect soup for a winter’s night. The full-bodied beef broth gave us a welcoming sense of warmth. An abundant amount of caramelized onion laced the bottom of the bowl, and the top was encased in an indulgent coating of gooey, melting Parmesan cheese that coated the soup spoon at every dip. This is a delightfully rich soup that can easily be had as a meal in itself.
Next came the mains. Although Silver Fox has an impressive list of seafood offerings, we thought it would be madness to miss out on their highly acclaimed steak!
I opted for the Bone-In Ribeye Steak.
This is one carnivorous portion weighing 18 oz! Given this is USDA certified prime steak, it has a price tag to match at AED 399 per serving.
The edge of my steak piece was decadently tender with a marbling of beef fat. The meatier portion nearer to the bone had full-on beef flavoring. It was like having two styles of steak on one bone.
The steak was served with the crunchiest, freshest snap peas I’ve ever had. If I could cook snap peas like this, my 4 year-old would be gobbling down her greens in no time!
Hubby went for the Porterhouse steak, another 18 oz serving tagged at AED 420 per plate.
The Porterhouse steak is more densely meaty, and although he is a big eater, even he struggled with finishing this monstrously large meal.
For the sides, we ordered the Six Cheese Potatoes, and the Sautéed Mushrooms.
Both of the sides were delicious, but we ended up eating more of the mushrooms that seemed lighter on the stomach while eating so much steak.
The steaks are served with sauces of your choosing. We sampled all four sauces.
There was a bowl of Hollandaise, a Peppered Sauce, a Fiorentine, and a Silver Fox special.
I relished the Silver Fox special sauce. It is a blend of blue cheese, garlic and red shallots. I also had generous helpings of the Fiorentine, a delicate blend of garlic paste and olive oil.
Overall it was a delicious meal. Next time, I will opt for a smaller portion as I couldn’t do justice to my steak (as I type this post, I’m wishing for some leftovers!).
If you are tuned into Channel 4 (104.8 FM), you’ve probably been hearing RJ Sean raving about Silver Fox. I remember him saying these steaks will do your Instagram account proud. I couldn’t agree more. Isn’t this steak truly photogenic?
And did I mention Silver Fox has high-speed Wifi without the need of any annoying customer codes? Just log in and click uploads to Instagram in no time!
By the time we were done with our mains, I could hardly move. And then our lovely waitress entices us with desert!
We decided to share the Silver Fox Bread Pudding. This decadently rich Ciabatta bread pudding sits on a dense pool of toffee sauce, and is topped with a generous sprinkle of pecan nuts. It is accompanied by a delectable cinnamon ice-cream that felt heavenly after this epic, heavy feast.
A cup of Earl Grey tea with the desert completed the meal.
The verdict: If you are a steak lover, you have to try out Silver Fox. It is the perfect destination for a very special fine-dining meal. Silver Fox has built a reputation around their fine steaks, but their seafood dishes are just as divine.
If you are a light eater, the full-course might be a challenge. Opt for smaller portions of the mains. The steak sizes range from 6oz to 18oz.
Overall, Silver Fox was a wonderful experience. The staff made us feel completely pampered, the ambience was uber-chic, and the next time we have a major carnivorous urge, we will be dreaming of their steaks!
