Inspired by the old-school luncheonettes of eighties America, Black Tap brings back the nostalgia of enjoying a cheeseburger and milkshake as a child, but prims it up to macho grownup standards.
The award-winning burger joint from NYC has quite a repute for its monster shakes. But there’s so much more than Inst-friendly sipping to be had here.
We headed to the Black Tap branch at Dubai Festival City last week and had the pleasure of trying out quite a few of their new-menu items.
First off is the ambiance. With funky retro-style graphics, dimmed mood lighting and groovy old-school music, Black Tap is a foodie den you’d love to book as a corner to catch up with your closest brood. Best of all, the restaurant boasts of a wide view of the Dubai Festival City waterfront, giving diners a VIP view of IMAGINE (Dubai Festival City’s record-breaking new attraction that harnesses the power of light, water and fire with surround-sound to showcase a story every hour). I would therefore suggest visiting this Black Tap branch in the evenings and try to get a table as close to the view as possible.
We started off with refreshing sips of Passionfruit Mojito and Virgin Pina Colada. The Black Tap branch at Dubai Festival City is a fully licensed restaurant, and has an entire bar menu on offer should you wish to drink.

For appetizers, we tried the new Mexican Hot Sauce wings. These scrumptious wings are drenched in hot sauce and sprinkled with blue cheese, scallions and a special blue cheese sauce. This was hands down my daughter’s favorite dish of the night, she totally winged this dish (pun intended).

We also ordered a platter of their brand new Carne Asada Tacos. These soft tacos are filled with marinated steak, pico de gallo, caramelized onions, roasted tomato salsa, sour cream, cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime. It’s a Mexican fiesta on the tastebuds!

For our mains, we tried two brand new burgers. First up was The Truffle Burger. This decadent feast of a burger features a gourmet wagyu beef pattie and smoked gouda. It is topped with fresh green baby arugula, truffle-yuzu vinaigrette and black truffle mayo. A must-try for truffle lovers.

My favorite from the night was the absolutely delicious new Chili Cheese Burger. This prime burger pattie is minced to perfection and I had mine medium-well. It is doused in Mexican chili sauce, melting American cheese, zesty cheese sauce and a generous topping of frizzled onions on top. Trust me, this one tastes even better than it looks!

The finale of the night was the brand new monster shake at Black Tap. Continuing our love for Tex- Mex, we went for the Churro Choco Taco Shake.
Overall, we had a very memorable night at Black Tap, Dubai Festival City. The food was absolutely delicious and served in generously large American-sized portions. The staff are very fun-loving and helpful, the ambiance is so welcoming, and the waterfront view is a major bonus.
The next time you’re craving a gourmet burger and milkshake treat, keep Black Tap in mind. Thank me later.
