Are you ready for the Numaish Festive Show tomorrow?! I for one have a very lengthy wishlist at hand, and am super excited about visiting the stalls of prominent and upcoming fashion designers from India. Absolutely love Indian fashion, especially Indo-Western silhouettes!
Today I’m introducing you to Pratik and Priyanka, the duo behind the funky label I am Design. And yes, they are going to be selling their wares at the Numaish Festive Show this Friday and Saturday at Hotel Conrad Dubai!
What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
Passion & passion & more passion for everything creative & beautiful!
Tell us more about the latest collection that you are showcasing at Numaish.
Our collection ‘Indian me Fusion’ beautifully blends the south with the north by means of taking inspiration from the traditional Indian weaves like the Ikkat, Patola, benarsi etc and giving it a whole new-look! The wearer is the contemporary woman who fits perfectly into the two worlds- the modern and the traditional.
We use a stunning mix of colors with just the right amount of embroidery. The collection offers crisp silhouettes & unconventional fusions.
What are the key inspirations behind this collection?
By using the motifs of the traditional Indian weaves like the Ikkat, Patola, benarsi etc and giving it an illusion of weaves; we wanted to bring the high crafts of India to the common man, & in ways create renewed interest in traditional Indian aesthetics in a nontraditional way.
How does Indian fashion stand out from the rest of the world?
The heart of Indian fashion lies in our rich cultural heritage from which designers take inspiration time & again. Indian fashion not only gives wonderful western silhouettes to the world but also offers traditional Indian textiles, crafts & silhouettes.
Where do you see Indian fashion in the next five years?
Indian fashion is going global like never before. On one hand technology in Indian fashion will see a big boom; on the other hand Indian textiles & crafts will be recognized more than ever before. ‘Make in India’ will go global!
In your opinion, how does the fashion scene of the UAE differ from the rest of the world?
Fashion in UAE is quite an irony. The influx of people from all over has brought it a cosmopolitan vibe which has made it a place to reckon with when it comes to fashion! It is now one of the biggest business hubs & it is absolutely amazing to see the fashion sense in people here!
