I was first attracted to Dear John by Lush for its cursive font. The packaging of this cologne body spray looks as retro as the scent itself.
Dear John is a deeply woody, spiced unisex scent that was created by father and son duo Simon and Mark Constantine in 2011.
Key Notes:
- Vetiver
- Virginia Cedar
- Clove
- Coriander
- Lime
- Coffee
- Pine
Dear John is an assuring, manly fragrance, loved by women and men. Evocative of cosy, relaxing nights in a log cabin, cedarwood gives it a calming, earthy scent. It also has a warm citrus splash with a strong coffee note and a hint of pine and tobacco from smoky vetivert. Notes: lime, pine, coffee, clove, cedarwood, coriander, vetivert. – Lush
Although it is sold as a unisex scent, the deep woody accents might be a bit too overpowering for many women. However, I do know of many women including myself who prefer deeper, woody exotic scents that include a whiff of vetiver.
On first sniff, Dear John is aromatically lemon to me, with a hint of clove heat. The woody accents come to play on first spritz and mellow down to reveal a bit of coriander and coffee.
Dear John is smoky, retro and romantic all at once. The lemony lightness makes it wearable throughout the day, and I love the deep spiciness the scent. It evokes a touch of exotic mystery in everyday living.
Perhaps Dear John was created for a John Doe, a mystery man with no identity. With the magical deepness of this scent, you can pretend to be whoever you want to be.
I am loving the Dear John cologne body spray, and will be looking up the more concentrated perfume version of this scent at Lush real soon!
