Our social calendar has been flooded with Iftar invites this month, and last night took us to The Shores restaurant at Ramada Plaza JBR.
The Shores is the Ramada Plaza JBR’s all-day dining concept, and the menu for Iftar has been revamped to accommodate the more traditional fare for Ramadan.
Apart from being nutritionally dense, oats have been used for beauty treatments for centuries. Using beauty products loaded with oats is believed to have many skin-enhancing qualities including skin hydration, soothing itchiness and keeping the overall complexion youthfully supple.
If you’ve been reading my beauty posts, you already know I am a huge fan of Lush. I’ve recently been treating myself to two of Lush’s oat-based beauty products; the Ceridwen’s Cauldron and the Dream Cream.
Dusit Thani, the 65 year-old five star hotel chain hailing from Thailand, has been a part of the UAE hospitality scene for nearly a decade now. Renowned for their service and delicious meals, I was quite excited about trying out their Iftar buffet last night.
The Iftar buffet at Dusit Thani has been set up on the 24th floor of the hotel with spectacular views of the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai. The menu is predominantly Middle Eastern adapting to the theme of Ramadan.

Over the past few years, the brand has elevated its game by associating individual products with major personalities in the hair-care business.
With Sunsilk’s debut into the market for dry shampoos, the association continues ensuring end users like us continue to enjoy quality products at supermarket prices.

Chef Gaurav with bubby & me at Zafran, Mirdiff City Centre.
Remember my gastronomic meal at Zafran? We had a sampler dish from every corner of India!
Meet Chef Gaurav, the mastermind behind the delicious fare.
With an impressive culinary career including cooking for the Ambani’s, Chef Gaurav gets candid about his journey as a chef so far and has generously shared the recipe for one of my favorite dishes at Zafran: the Bengali inspired Prawn Coconut Curry. This mildly spiced curry is a perfect addition to the Iftar table.
Tucked away in the lush greenery of the Al Barari estate is a restaurant offering a uniquely serene and scenic experience. The Farm Al Barari was conceptualized and created by the Zaal family of the UAE, and the sole ethos of this restaurant revolves around dishing out soul-satisfying food in an ambiance to suit.
In operation for over 3 years now, The Farm owes its name to its initial concept of using produce from its very own garden. However, the restaurant has since overgrown the 28 pax capacity, and outsources the finest ingredients available at any given time. Given the need for freshness, the menu at The Farm keeps changing seasonally.
Balanced Guru is a brand new beauty brand to the UAE market, and has only just launched here this month.
When I heard ‘Balanced Guru’, the name conjured up zen images of beautifully organic products wrapped up in pretty recyclable packaging. I must be psychic because this is essentially the brand’s philosophy!
With summer well and truly here, it’s time to reevaluate the makeup bag. The warmer months have always suited the minimalist look; think barely-there makeup to enhance the features and recreate a flawless, youthfully glowing complexion.
For a daytime look, pretty pastels are in and darker, deeper shades are best saved up for the cooler months. This look requires lightly done eyes, a barely-there lippy, but if there’s one thing you can play up on, its your blush: the perfect ‘flash of color’!
Ramadan, the holy month of fasting observed by Muslims the world over, will commence around the 18th of June this year. During this entire month, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk. This fast is observed for spiritual growth, to increase empathy for the less fortunate, to celebrate the divinity of the Almighty, and to cleanse impurities of both the body and mind.
The association of dates with Ramadan is significant from both a religious and a health point of view. Today’s post explores the significance of dates in Islam. We look at a collection of Hadiths (verified quotes by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ) and put it side by side with the scientific the know-how of today.
