What have you been up to this long Eid weekend? We decided to hibernate on Day 1, dreading the holiday rush across the city. Surely every road, every mall and every restaurant must be overflowing with people now that everybody is back from the summer break?

Well I have great news for you! I’ve recently discovered the (not so secret) secret hang-out for foodies who, like me, detest the crowds. Ironically just a few parallel roads down from buzzing Dubai Mall itself, Bay Square is a hidden gem housing some of Dubai’s most affordable restaurants under one spacious complex itself.

I was in Bay Square about a week ago, devouring really good Thai food at Fuchsia, and just a week later I was back yet again, this time for some amazingly affordable Indian at 25 Degrees North.

I met the absolutely adorable, bubbly Chef Larissa Mazzoli a few months ago when I had my first taste of Chamas Churrascaria and Bar. Merely 24 of age, Larissa is a true connoisseur of her native Brazilian cuisine, and I was overly impressed with how passionately she talks about the churrascaria (a South American style of grilling meat over fire). You can read all about my kitchen tour with Chef Larissa by clicking here, and in today’s post Chef Larissa tells us more about her passion for grilling, and how she plans to take her career to the next step.

Hubby and I are ardent Thai cuisine lovers and thought we knew of every major Thai restaurant in Dubai. And then I get an invite for Fuchsia, Business Bay Dubai’s newest foodie hub. But it turns out Fuchsia isn’t new at all… their first branch in Barsha has rave ratings from regulars on Zomato, and it looks like we’ve been missing out on this ‘not so secret’ secret!

Fuchsia is a family-owned business, conceptualized and created by a Pakistani father and daughter duo. They are already operational in Lahore and Karachi, and after their Dubai venture in Barsha turned out to be a major success, it was time to open a second door, this time in Business Bay.

Chocaholics rejoice. Chocolak, an online distributor of premium chocolate, is now open for business! Forget the usual supermarket range, we are talking premium highly indulgent chocolate treats here, the kind you really wouldn’t want to share… not even with your kids!

Known among his fraternity as ‘The Master of Weaves’, Gaurang Shah is a highly revered name in the Indian fashion industry. His besotted jamdanis, meticulously woven in all the colours of the rainbow, take up only a fraction of his masterful creations.

With an artful eye for immaculate detailing, Gaurang Shah has been instrumental in the revival of traditional Indian weaves, and his creativity has re-molded the quintessential 6-yard sari as we know it.

The wait is over. The highly anticipated Carnival by Tresind is finally opening its doors at DIFC Dubai on Saturday 3rd September. After a long week of work, I was very excited about heading to Carnival. We received a media invite to try out a set menu, and like our undeniably favorite Indian restaurant Tresind, Carnival proved to be a magical jaw-dropping experience. The only bummer was that they haven’t obtained their liquor licence yet (this will be resolved by the time they officially open).

Walking into Carnival by Tresind is like stepping into a fantasy world. Dimly lit yet festively spruced up with gilded trees branching out at every corner, a wall of masquerade masks and an impressively stylish bar area with a backlit feature wall of empty bottles, we were showered down with a welcoming burst of bubbles as soon as we took our seats at the table.

Hidden in a quiet nook of Jumeirah Lake Towers I is a neon-blue lit restaurant serving up a smorgasbord of Indo-Chinese delicacies. Blue Sapphire is managed by the very debonair Mr. John, who like the cuisine of the restaurant, has an Indo-Chinese background. Chinese by ethnicity, Mr. John grew up in the Eastern Indian state of Calcutta and is now proudly heading the kitchen of Blue Sapphire.

Blue Sapphire Indo Chinese restaurant JLT Dubai review by The Tezzy Files UAE Food Blogger (1)

The glistening play of light on the vividly blue waters of JLT gave inspiration for the restaurant’s name, and apart from the stark blue lighting (which played havoc with my camera), the interiors are clean, simple and sparsely decorated with Chinese memorabilia.

I have always had an inclination for organic beauty brands, yet I thought this genre was restricted to skincare. I’ve tried a number of organic makeup products in the past, but somehow the intensity of colors and length of wear never seems to match up to the conventional stuff.

Exciting news… I recently got introduced to a brand new organic beauty brand called Naturalmente, and they have this entire range called Breathe Makeup Therapy which offers very wearable makeup range. Every product offered is loaded with skin-loving organic goodness, and today I want to give you an insight into their Powder and Bronzer.

I’ve always been experimental with my teas, and have quite an assortment to boast of in my kitchen cabinet. By far, the little tin I have been reaching out to most often has been my prized stash of Japanese Matcha Green Tea.

This highly coveted powdered tea is far more superior than your average cup of green tea.

“One glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant content.” – Tealand website.

Given its ‘superfood’ status, I was rather shocked at how hard it was to get my hands on some 100% pure Matcha powder in Dubai. I tried every nutrition shop in Dubai Mall, and was finally guided to a little stall on the basement level called Tealand.

Tealand has all the possible kinds of teas you can think of, and horray! They had Matcha!
