October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but as women, awareness and self-care need to extend well beyond October and become a part of our daily lives.
The numbers are morbid. Statistics show 1 in 8 women will fall prey to this life-threatening disease sometime or another, and the number of women under 40 being diagnosed is on a spike.
Almost every household has a cancer story to tell. However, it isn’t all doom and gloom. Although the exact causes of cancers in any form are still a vague question mark, scientific advances and alternative healing methods have saved many lives the world over. For breast cancer specifically, early detection is key.
The past few months have been strenuously taxing on my system. It’s been a roller-coaster ride of bloat, over-eating, travel, time differences and jet-lag. With minimal time to unwind and detox, the idea of a teatox sounded very inviting. Just swap my regular cuppa with a Bootea if you please!
For those who need an introduction, the Bootea 14 Day Teatox has been getting a great deal of social media hype lately. Essentially a set of day and night tea-bags that you sip morning and night, Bootea promises to cleanse and detox the system in 2 weeks flat. A sucker for pretty packaging, I fell in love with the gorgeous pastel pack, and the adorably cute pyramid-shaped teabags.
28th August, 2015: Today marks the 25th anniversary of Daffodil Day in New Zealand.
Daffodil Day is Cancer Society New Zealand’s annual fundraising event. It was created to raise cancer awareness, as well as encourage donations for cancer research and funding the care of cancer patients in New Zealand.
Daffodils symbolize rebirth and new beginnings, and is therefore the perfect icon for Cancer Society New Zealand.

Balanced Guru is a brand new beauty brand to the UAE market, and has only just launched here this month.
When I heard ‘Balanced Guru’, the name conjured up zen images of beautifully organic products wrapped up in pretty recyclable packaging. I must be psychic because this is essentially the brand’s philosophy!
Ramadan, the holy month of fasting observed by Muslims the world over, will commence around the 18th of June this year. During this entire month, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk. This fast is observed for spiritual growth, to increase empathy for the less fortunate, to celebrate the divinity of the Almighty, and to cleanse impurities of both the body and mind.
The association of dates with Ramadan is significant from both a religious and a health point of view. Today’s post explores the significance of dates in Islam. We look at a collection of Hadiths (verified quotes by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ) and put it side by side with the scientific the know-how of today.
There I was sitting at my office desk this mundane Thursday afternoon dreaming up a fabulous weekend and feeling awfully peckish. And then I get this little brown box. *Cue in the haloed lights and angelic harps*.
Famished and curious all at once, I tore open the beautifully eco-friendly packaging. Munchbox is a godsend for office munchkins like me!
