From the outside, Flow appears to be yet another chic urban café, complete with a smorgasbord of enticing goodies at the front and deli-style fonts scribbled across its expansive white-washed walls.
I set foot into the newest foodie venture at Emirates Towers on a hustling work day, and the place was packed with lunchers. The café has an affiliative vibe and is flooding with natural lighting, and the staff (despite the grueling rush-time) seemed genuinely sweet and enthused with what the menu had on offer.
Yet Flow is no regular café. Closely linked to the Dubai Ministry of Youth, this is a venture on reintroducing healthy eating and promoting young entrepreneurs. The menu lists many well-loved dishes that have been recreated without the unhealthy additives. They also claim their portion sizes are ‘just right’ to satiate. Hearing this got the foodie in me rather worried… I was expecting miniscule portions that skimmed on taste along with the fat. So glad Flow proved me wrong!
Apart from their beautifully brewed coffees using roasts from around the world, the food served here is as delicious as it is tasty.
We loved their Heritage Tomatoes, an Italian-inspired starter featuring freshly baked bruschetta topped with avocado, pesto, piri piri and succulently sweet baby tomatoes. Their Edamame beans proved to be an addictive munch, as was the wee bowl of assorted berries.
My favorites from their main-courses included their beautifully cooked Eggs Benedict, complete with a decadently runny yolk, and the very soft, moreishly meaty and succulently juicy Moroccan Lamb.
For dessert, we shared a Carrot Cake and a Cherry Cheesecake. While the cheesecake was nothing to write home about (it looked and almost tasted like the frozen cheesecake variety), the carrot cake was deliciously dense, moist and delicately spiced with a hint of cinnamon. Loved the healthier version of the cream cheese frosting too, could hardly tell it was a ‘cheat’ version!
And if you are looking for gluten-free or paleo-friendly options, the Chef is more than happy to accommodate your request with most of the menu options.
Best of all, after all that over-ordering, I actually managed to get myself back to work sans any hint of over-eating. I usually avoid heavy lunches during work hours as they tend to doze me off, but not the case here at all! This goes to prove that the healthful dishes and sensible portions literally aid with ‘going with the flow’. No wonder this place is such a huge hit with the office staff! Wish we could have a branch near my workplace too.
