When husband-wife duo Neil Kleinberg and DeDe Lahman opened their very first Clinton Street Baking Company in New York City, little did they know of the phenomenal success that was awaiting their simple yet scrumptious creation. Neil’s blueberry pancakes have been voted the best in the city twice over by New York Magazine, and it was only a matter of time before they hit the Dubai foodie scene.
Clinton Street Baking Company is tucked away in the residential nook of Burj Views, Dubai and has created some serious noise in the foodie scene. Zomato reviews rave about their all-day breakfast menus, and when I saw images of their 15-hour smoked beef ribs, I was at their table in no time!
We booked a table at Clinton Street Baking Company for dinner, around 9 pm on a weekday. The restaurant was very desolate, but the staff tell us it gets very packed in the mornings and lunch-times with the office and residential regulars.
I love the quirky, retro vibes of the space. A cheerfully red tinned wall reads ‘EAT’ on the front wall, and another is chalked with information on the menu and specials for the day.
What makes Clinton St different? Apart from a very Americanized menu boasting of hard to find flavor combinations like Chicken & Waffles, everything served here is made from 100% organic ingredients.
Having said that, they are also full on flavor and don’t shy away from the calories! Clinton St’s tagline, after all, is ‘Made with Love & Butter‘ 🙂 This quirky, to-the-point tagline is all over their merchandise (which you can buy!) and on the staff uniforms. Expect gourmet, butter-laden goodness here!
We met the very friendly Yohan who was our host for the evening, and he took us through the deliciously packed menu.
We started off our meal at Clinton St with very refreshing glasses of Earl Grey Iced Tea. I love the characteristic deep, earthy scent and flavor of Earl Grey, and the addition of sweetened lemonade made it a very delicious sip.
The Eggs Benedict at Clinton St are a class apart. The eggs are water-poached with a few drops of vinegar to give a slight texture to the whites, and the yollks are deliciously runny (a real flow on sunshine!). This perfectly poached pair, topped with creamy Hollandaise sauce, sits on slices of scrumptiously smoked salmon and is served on Buttermilk Biscuits (a wide wedge of bread with a hint of buttermilk sourness, and a crisp toasted outer layer). Delicious!
Chicken with waffles is a very American concept. The idea of combining a dessert with fried chicken might sound off-putting to many, but the flavor combinations really do work beautifully together.
The fried chicken at Clinton St is coated in a very crunchy semolina batter, and sits alongside a golden-brown waffle, with a pot of whipped maple syrup butter on the side. Its a flavor explosion of salty-sweet crunch and munch.
Yohan insisted we should try Clinton St’s Chicken Patties. These little patties look deceptively simple. Every bite is laden with a juicy play of chicken, a special mix of spices and cilantro.
We were given three bottles of Clinton St sauces to have our mains with. All three are made from cratch in-house. The red one is a regular tomato ketchup, the green is a jalapeno sauce (and was my absolute favorite over everything served!) and the dark brown is a warm, robust barbecue sauce. The later is a must over Clinton St’s beef ribs.
Clinton St’s 15-Hour Smoked Beef Ribs is pure legend! The meat has been smoked for a good 15 hours to ensure the flavors really marinate in. The smoking is done with a beautiful combination of apple wood and hickory, and coated with Clinton St’s in-house barbecue cure.
Prime Australian 25-day grain fed beef is used here, and the 15-hour smoking time ensures the fat of the meat is rendered down to create mouth-watering, melt in the mouth decadence. Just look at the juiciness of the fat below!
This life-changing plate of ribs was definitely the show-stopper for the night, and is served with crisp, deep-fried sweet potato chips and house slaw.
With all this gastronomic richness, the drink of choice is definitely sparkling water!
But wait! There’s dessert 🙂
We had to try Clinton St’s award-winning pancakes. Yohan insisted we tried his personal favorite, the Chocolate Pancakes.
Can you see how fluffy these pancakes are just from the photo above? The texture is more like a spongy cake, and this helps each morsel really absorb a good dip of that rich maple syrup butter on the side! Each pancake is sprinkled with big chunks of dark chocolate, and dusted with icing sugar. I could have a plate of this for breakfast, every day of my life 🙂
We finished off our memorable meal at Clinton St Baking Company with hot, frothy cups of cappuccino.
If you love all-day breakfasts, and have a serious craving for really good, authentically American grub, head to Clinton St Baking Company. And don’t forget to try those ribs!
The restaurant has great views of Burj Khalifa from the front facade. Perhaps you’d like to spend 31st December there and enjoy the fireworks while you’re at it?
