The secret behind a radiantly clear, smooth complexion isn’t really a secret anymore. It all starts with keeping your skin clean; like really, really clean. Yet over-cleansing and exfoliating can strip the complexion of precious moisture and leave it overly dry and prone to premature aging.

I have normal to dry skin and tend to be very weary of over-drying cleansing formulations, so when I got sent the Starskin The Master Cleanser Detoxing Sea Kelp Leaf Cleansing Foam (long, long name, I know!), I kept it aside for a good few weeks before I gave it a try. The ‘Master Cleanser’ sounded like it would really clear out everything on my face, and perhaps it was made for oily skin.

How wrong was I. This wee cleanser deep cleanses for sure (you really are left with this refreshingly clean after-feel), and it manages to do so without leaving the complexion feeling tight and begging for hydration.

Named after the much-loved Japanese animation character, Manga Sushi is a spectacular world of its own. With a cherry blossom tree right at the front, a graffiti wall, Origami lighting and waitresses dressed up Japanese school-girl style (high socks and all), walking into this restaurant is like relishing a slice of Eastern pop culture that is so strikingly different from the hustle bustle of Dubai Mall that surrounds it.

A household commodity who’s very name is used as a universal form of endearment, honey has long been a prized commodity for health and beauty. Cleopatra bathed in it, and Madame du Barry (the infamous last mistress of Louis XV) used it regularly as a face mask. Honey has been a prized nectar across timelines and cultures, and this bespoke amber liquid comes in many tastes and forms.

When Bollywood blockbuster ‘Airlift‘ released in late January this year, it brought back bittersweet memories of the Gulf War. My family and I were in Kuwait during the summer of 1990, and through the innocent eyes of adolescence, I can still vividly remember all that unfolded.

Airlift is an action-packed Bollywood movie that is based on the real-life bravery of an Indian businessman. Mathunny Mathews is credited for being one of the people responsible for fixing a deal with the Indian government and safely airlifting over 170,000 Indians back to India from Iraq-invaded Kuwait. Till this movie came out, I had never heard of Mr. Mathews, and if he ever reads this, I would like to say we are eternally grateful to him as my family and I were one of the many families who’s lives he managed to save.

However, our story in Iraq-invaded Kuwait was rather different from what was portrayed in the movie, and given today is August 2nd, the 26th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, I wanted to share some of my personal memoirs from the Gulf War with you.

Gosh Cosmetics is a makeup brand hailing from Denmark, and prides itself for its high-quality products that are in par with some of the biggest brands on the beauty shelves (yet cost a fraction of the price). Moreover, the brand is cruelty-free, their products contain no harmful parabans or synthetic additives, and apart from their lipsticks which contain beeswax, the Gosh range can also claim to be vegan-friendly! (For more on Gosh Cosmetics, read my earlier post by clicking here).

I just got back to good old sunny Dubai, and went ecstatic discovering a whole new bag of Gosh goodies in my mailbox! Ofcourse I had to play with them right away 🙂

I was driving down Al Wasl Road last afternoon, wondering where I’d settle down for a quick bite of lunch, and then my phone buzzed. It was an urgent work call, and I didn’t have my bluetooth on, so I swerved into the parking alley of Box Park Dubai.

After attending to my call, I noticed I was parked right infront of Meat ‘N Fish. The simplistic name sounded enticing enough, and I wasn’t feeling too keen on walking up Box Park in the muggy midday heat to look up any other options.

My whirlwind trip to India now feels like a distant dream. Where did a whole month go? We spent the major chunk of our holiday in the beautifully picturesque town of Shillong.

My Hubby calls Shillong home, and spent his entire childhood here. Every nook of the city seems to hold a fond memory for him, and despite being away for countless years, he proves to be an expert tour guide, leading me through miles of endlessly narrow streets and cobbled stairs.
