I’ve been drooling over the very photogenic creations of newly opened Status Kitchen for over a month, and finally made time for a visit a couple of weeks ago.

Located behind a community mall that goes under the name Abaya Mall in the Mirdiff district of Dubai, the prim and proper red brick walling on its exteriors promise an extravagant high-tea of sorts. When we got there, we even spotted an astute, new model black and chrome Merc parked outside. So astute, so statuesque! 

 

But that is where the illusion ends. Walking inside, we found ourselves in an open kitchen of sorts, and a very narrow bench on the corner with three stools serves as the dining space.

Don’t get me wrong, the interiors are delightful! With quirky quotes and very kitsch accents, Status Kitchen is, as the second phase of the name suggests, a kitchen that functions as a delivery service.

 

Despite being under a month old, Status Kitchen has already made a mark in the Dubai foodie arena and all credit goes to their very unique menu offerings.

Status Kitchen seems to have a love affair with activated charcoal. High on the super-food list and equally popular in beauty treatments as it is on our plates, the deep black of charcoal makes everyday dishes look so much more dramatic.

We tried out their Black Milkshake, a very Instagram-worthy shake that comes in variations of vanilla, chocolate, Oreo and Lotus. My co-diner decided to go with vanilla. It tastes very much like a regular vanilla shake, with an icy thick consistency and vanilla-scented sweetness. But the actual presentation is absolutely stunning!

 

And then there’s the pancakes… I’ve seen stacks of charcoal-blackened Status Kitchen pancakes all over Instagram, and so we had to get some as well! Again, these come in variations of Nutella, Lotus, Oreo to name a few. We went for Nutella.

As you can see, these Nutella Pancakes are absolutely drenched in Nutella naughtiness! The pancakes themselves are beautifully soft and moist, but the only disappointment was the size. In photos these look huge! But in reality they are around 8 cm in diameter, and you really don’t want to share these.

Moving on from the black, Status Kitchen serves up a rainbow of sliders. Christened the Status VVIP, this trio includes a chicken slider, a shrimp slider and a beef slider. At AED 50 for three and Insta-worthy to boot, these rainbow sliders are a bargain deal.

 

However, my favorite slider at Status Kitchen was the Juicy Lucy. This moreishly cheesy burger features a prime Angus beef patty topped with a melting cheese patty to amplify the cheesiness. Absolutely drool-worthy!

 

And would you like fries with that?! I’d highly recommend the Status Fries. Drizzled with hot, melted cheese and topped with jalapeno, white onion and tomato, this basket is a meal in itself.

 

And if you are a fan of Dynamite Shrimps, the ones at Status Kitchen really pack a punch.

 

We downed all this yumminess with refreshingly fruity Mixberry Mojito and a Special Pinacolada. How gorgeous are these?!

 

Overall, we loved our treats at Status Kitchen. The dishes here are so quirky cool and Insta-worthy, and I will surely be back for more. Only wish they had more space for dine-ins.
