Exfoliation is key. The skincare gurus have drilled on about this for ages, and for good reason too. A good scrub eliminates dead skin cells, rejuvenates the blood circulation, and gives you that pinked up glow of newfound youth.
However, its just as important not to overdo it as all too often can strip the sensitive skin on the face of essential moisture. Try incorporating exfoliation into your skincare regime twice a week.
I love a good multi-tasking product, and lately I’ve seen quite a few exfoliating scrubs that also double up as face masks. Today I am sharing my top 3 favorites with you…
Number 3: Bogetta Verde Apricot Scrub Mask
A chance shoppathon across Deira City Centre found me in the very provencally styled Bogetta Verde store. Hailing from Italy, the brand offers a wide range of skincare and makeup products, all of which are based on natural ingredients.
Italian and natural ingredients… you’d think the products cost an arm and a leg! But quite the contrary. I walked out with quite a bag-full for under AED 200, and one of the products I happened to pick up was this Bogetta Verde Apricot Scrub Mask.
This product reminds me of the very first scrub that I ever used; the ever popular drug-store St Ives Apricot Scrub. This too gets its granular coarseness from ground apricot kernel and provides the face with a medium to high scrub effect.
Unlike the drug-store alternative, this product is loaded with skin-loving Apricot Oil. Rich in vitamins, anti-oxidants and nourishing properties, this scrub will keep the skin moisturised right after the exfoliation. This makes it ideal as a leave-on mask right after a scrub, and makes my face look visibly clearer, more radiant and refreshed.
Number 2: The Body Shop Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask
I really liked the sound of exotic ginseng in a face scrub/mask, and as expected, this product smells so divine. One sniff and you get a spa-like experience right there and then.
Apart from its aromatic scent, Ginseng has been used for centuries for boosting energy and is also known to have toning and stimulating properties.
With Ginseng as the key ingredient, this fabulous scrub mask works to brighten and even out the complexion, and helps minimize pores. Community trade sesame oil acts as the moisturizing agent here, and the granular scrubbing texture comes from pounded rice granules.
As a scrub, it has medium coarseness, ideal for most skin types. As a mask, this product is highly cooling and smells amazing. This is a spa treat you can indulge in right at home!
Number 1: Herbal Essentials Walnut & Honey Scrub
First off, this scrub smells ridiculously amazing! It has this deep, earthy scent owing to the well grinded husks of walnut and the sweet aftertaste of honey. But what I was drawn to even more was the actual texture of the mask… it takes on this deep, earthy brown mud-like texture that appeals to the organic freak in me.
It feels more like a mud mask than an exfoliating cleanser. It has a sparse dispersion of exfoliating beads, but if you are looking for a good hard scrub, this isn’t for you.
This is more of a feel-good product, an aromatherapy treatment of sorts. As a scrub, I wish it had more grittiness but as a mask, I am a die-hard fan! I can see instantaneous results. My skin feels baby-soft, smooth and well-pampered right after I wash it off. And I especially love that tingling earthy scent.
