Blue Ink Beachwear is a brand new fashion label to look out for this summer. Originating from fashion-savvy Italy, the debuting collection takes inspiration from exotic prints from across the globe, and is the brainchild of designer Anisha Lalani.
Born to an Indian father and Belgian mother, and now working on an Italian brand for the UAE market, Anisha is every bit the global citizen! Apart from the gorgeous design aesthetics of the collection, Anisha has created pieces that are wearable by real women. From size 6 to 20, Blue Ink Beachwear has something to flatter every body. How did you get into fashion design?
I have always had the urge to create. After finishing studies in the International Business Management field, I went to Milan to study swimwear design. That’s where I learnt to create a garment and develop it in such a way that manufacturers would understand.
And why beachwear in particular? Please tell us how the gorgeous Blue Ink Beachwear brand was created.
There are so many women wear stores and so much competition. With Blue Ink, I wanted to focus on curves. There are not many swimwear labels that offer bigger sizes.
That is where Blue Ink has an edge. Most swimwear in a size 16 or up are all odd looking and you can tell from a mile away that it is plus size swimwear due to weird skirts attached to the suit or colors that are completely off trend. I use amazing prints and carefully placed cut-outs to enhance the figure of a woman.
Blue Ink caters to all curvy women, it doesn’t matter if you are a size 6 or 20.
Where do you draw your inspirations?
The collection is inspired by the world and its beauty and is a combination of prints and pastels that are both bold and light. Influenced by luxury, the brand’s unique pieces are a combination of carefully selected top-of-the-range fabrics and crafted by the best Italian and Belgian companies.
Did you design each piece yourself?
Yes, all pieces are designed by me. I usually get inspiration form people and things around me. For instance, the lace-up detail on the sides of the Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Tropez comes from seeing a beautiful woman wearing a corset. For the next collection, I have some designs that are inspired by the dress of Katniss in one of the Hunger Game movies. Stay tuned 🙂
What makes Blue Ink Beachwear unique?
Blue Ink Beachwear desires to serve customers all over the world and we are thrilled to be a part of the swimwear wing of the fashion industry. The aim is to design swimwear for women of all sizes and create a garment that can bring out the confidence in the wearer and reflect her personality.
With a shifting trend towards fuller sizes and a focus on ‘strong is the new sexy’, the collection reflects the true essence of being a woman. The pieces are created to perfectly flatter the female silhouette, flaunt curves from all the right places and are incredibly fashion forward. Extreme care and focus has been given to use the right materials that are form flattering, the cuts and designs selected are not only fashionable but also perfectly compliment the female figure.
Can the pieces be taken from the beach to everyday life? Please share examples.
All swimwear is designed in Belgium and made in Italy, using only the finest fabrics. Most of the items in the collection are versatile and can be worn in more than one ways – daytime at the beach and night-time for socialising with friends.
I wanted to make true eye catchers with bold prints, sophisticated swimwear and beachwear for the woman who wants to project her urban confidence at the beach by wearing great designs at affordable prices and I wanted all items to be able to be worn in an urban setting too.
The printed swimwear can be easily converted into tops, for instance the Ibiza Blanca can be worn with a pair of shorts and the Eva beach robe; a ready outfit for a party or indoor shopping spree with friends. The beachwear can be worn on different occasions too. Pair the Natasha open front skirt with skinny black pants and a top, some killer heals and you are ready to be the show-stopper at the club.
What are your personal favorites from the newest collection?
It is very difficult to pick one as all have been carefully designed. But if I have to choose, I would go for the Ibiza Blanca one-piece. The shimmer of the fabric is truly amazing and the print is an eye catcher. I also like the fit and its comfortable. The Saint-Tropez is amazing too, I like the lace-up on the side. It gives it an edge and it is easily adjustable. If you want to show more of the side, just buy the swimsuit a size smaller and open it up.
For the beachwear, I will have to choose the Natasha skirt. It is so easy to wear. It matches with anything. I wear it over my bikini to have a drink on the beach, I wrap it over a pair of shorts and a top for a lunch with friends, or I pair it with black leather pants and a black top for a night on the town. Each time I wear it out, I feel like a princess.
