Asha Bhosle is arguably one of the greatest living legends of India. Internationally acclaimed for her evergreen melodious voice, she has been awarded the iconic status of “Most Recorded Artiste in the World” in music history by none other than the Guinness Book of World Records itself. Asha’s impressively long list of accolades includes the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award (presented by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair) and the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Dubai Film Festival in 2014.

Despite being a larger than life music sensation with fans spreading across a few generations, Asha Bhosle takes time off her busy schedule to perfect her skills in the kitchen. She has a profound love for cooking and entertaining her elite group of friends from the film fraternity, and with a special collection of unique recipes created by herself, the global chain of Asha’s restaurants was born.

When Bollywood blockbuster ‘Airlift‘ released in late January this year, it brought back bittersweet memories of the Gulf War. My family and I were in Kuwait during the summer of 1990, and through the innocent eyes of adolescence, I can still vividly remember all that unfolded.

Airlift is an action-packed Bollywood movie that is based on the real-life bravery of an Indian businessman. Mathunny Mathews is credited for being one of the people responsible for fixing a deal with the Indian government and safely airlifting over 170,000 Indians back to India from Iraq-invaded Kuwait. Till this movie came out, I had never heard of Mr. Mathews, and if he ever reads this, I would like to say we are eternally grateful to him as my family and I were one of the many families who’s lives he managed to save.

However, our story in Iraq-invaded Kuwait was rather different from what was portrayed in the movie, and given today is August 2nd, the 26th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, I wanted to share some of my personal memoirs from the Gulf War with you.

Antique Bazaar is an experience in itself. Apart from the delicious lineup of very popular Indian dishes the restaurant has to offer, the interiors have the look and feel of a bygone palatial courtyard, complete with intricately hand-carved furnishings and portraits of mythical royalty.

Book at table around 9 pm any day of the week, and you are in for a visual treat. Antique Bazaar has its very own band of Bollywood singers and dancers who keep diners entertained with a whole array of old and new numbers, and even take on song requests.

ahlan masala awards best asian blogger 2015

So I didn’t win the ‘Best Asian Blogger’ title, but am super flattered to be nominated among the top 5 ✌ . Congrats Lokesh Dharmani from the F by Lokesh blog, so very well deserved.

Thank-you Ahlan! Masala for yet another fabulous #masalaawards2015 event, had so much fun! Met one of my favorite Bollywood stars, Simi Garewal (she’s even lovelier in person!) and even had a quick chat with the stunning Jacqueline Fernandes backstage! Oh and that’s me giving away an award for best lounge in Dubai (congrats AKS Nights!).

The Masala awards makes me feel like a celeb and loved getting a chance to dress up Desi (Indian). Will be posting an outfit post real soon, so stay tuned!

Wow we are already at the end of Week 2! In Week 1 I was still recovering from the aftermath of bidding 2014 adieu. The scales haven’t budged much, but then again this was never about the weight. 100 Healthy Days is a lifestyle change, one baby-step at a time.

Here’s what I got up to in Week 2…

Fondly known as Malu to her gazillion fans across the UAE and beyond, this chirpy young RJ on City 101.6’s breakfast show is far more than just a pretty face.

Meet Malavika Varadan. Arguably one of UAE’s bubbliest RJ’s, a talented singer, and fitness blogger all rolled into one. She is also an unintentional fashion icon and a healthy living guru.

Sorry boys, she’s happily married.
