I haven’t done a #motd (‘makeup of the day’) post for a while, so today’s write-up is a breakdown of what went on my face to create my last selfie upload on Instagram:
They say a significant portion of your selfie game is determined by the state of your hair, and I can’t agree more. I have already been raving about the balayage blonde coloring I got done by the very talented Roger from Station 10 salon (located in Ramada Jumeirah) – click here if you missed it. Many of Dubai’s fashionistas have now discovered this brand new beauty haven, and I was there last Thursday getting my hair curled while the sets of Dubai TV were filming a reality beauty-themed show with noted local celebrity Roaa Al Sabban. This episode (recorded in Arabic) will air in mid December, and you might just spot me in the backdrop!
Here’s is a look at all the beauty products that went into creating this look:
As you might have noticed, I skipped the foundation. This was a pretty casual, super-quick do which only steers towards the glam side owing to the bright red pout.
For the Eyes
I filled my brows with my favorite Hi ImpactBrows Palette from Sephora. On me, the darkest brown (Mocha) works best. Click on image below for my complete review:
I absolutely love Sephora’s own brand of eye-shadows! I raved about the Sephora Geometricolor Palette here earlier, and now I want to introduce you to their Sun Bleached Palette.
The Sephora Sun Bleached Palette comes in an adorably compact casing that features a bleached out summery artwork on the cover. The black frame around the box gives the palette a nostalgic Polaroid camera look which I love.
The eye-shadow shades are very light, earthy and wearable on a daily basis. Each shade has an Instagram/Beach inspired name, which goes with the whole Polaroid look of the casing. The colors are very soft, creamy and pigmented.
For this particular look, I used Swell on my lids, and did the corner creases of my eyes with #tbt. The Sephora Sun Bleached Eyeshadow palette is available at all Sephora stores across the Middle East.
I lined my eyes with the iconic Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Push-Up Liner in black. This pen-style liner is super easy to use, and has a comfortable rubber tip that glides the liner to precision. Best of all, it really is a deep, dark black that is water-proof, absolutely smudge-free and lasts all day long. I bought mine at Sephora.
I finished off my eye makeup look with two coatings of my current favorite mascara, the Tarte Tartiest Lash Paint Mascara (also from Sephora). Click on the image below for my complete review on this mascara:
For the Lips
I love matte lipstick, but these shades tend to be drier on the lips. It is therefore very important to prep the lips with a high quality, moisturizing primer before applying a matte shade (or any shade for that matter). Your lips will thank you for it!
How about a highly moisturizing lip primer that also goes a few steps further by promising to add plumpness to your pout? Here is yet another brilliant new addition to the Sephora range: the GlamGlow Plumprageous Matte Lip Treatment.
The packaging is pretty sci-fi and looks like a metallic wand of sorts. Twisting the bottom elongates the wand, and you need to pull out the top to reveal the applicator:
As per the Sephora website, here is a list of the key ingredients that make the GlamGlow Plumprageous Matte Lip Treatment so special:
- Triple Plumping Complex: Designed for fast action with immediate high potency botanical plumping actives.
- Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C: Boost moisture and replenish essential nutriments.
- Blend of Cupuacu and Murumuru Butters: Perfect, condition, and smooth lips.
The GlamGlow Plumprageous Matte Lip Treatment has no color of its own, and I could feel the tingle of mint as soon as I put it on. I give it a good 5 minutes or so for the product to work its magic before moving on to my lip lining. The lips feel instantly softer, smoother, and dare I say, plumper! With a lip base this smooth and plumped up, lipstick application is a breeze!
I lined my lips, and filled them up with the Makeup Forever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in Red (8C).
I then used the YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats lipstick in 202 Rose Crazy. Infused with a special velvet complex and highly moisturizing jojoba oil, this lipstick doesn’t feel dying at all despite being a matte shade. The Rose Crazy shade is so intensely red, that its almost purple! Perfect for a special night out, or when you just need some color on the face to look more alive! And as with all YSL products, the packaging is absolutely luxe! I bought this lipstick from Paris Gallery.
Finishing off with Contouring
Finally, I contoured my face with my favorite Becca Lowlight Highlight Perfecting Palette. This too is yet another fabulous find from Sephora! Click on the image below for my complete review:
