What inspired you to become a fashion designer?

Ever since I was a child I wanted to become a designer. My childhood years spent at my home place Jaipur Rajasthan, which led to a divine connect that I started sharing with that place, the people, the culture; the rich heritage inspired me and still continues to do so. I think it came naturally to me, so I always knew that my love for design and fashion would someday make me what I am today.

Tell us more about your latest collection that you are showcasing at Numaish.

I will be showcasing my Indo Western Indigo , organic dye, traditional Rajasthani hand embroidery (Gotapati ) using Bandhani n Laharia blended with European silhouette collection. This collection is inspired by my being associated with the German / European people for 11 years. I shall also be showcasing my traditional Rajasthani works for the confident Indian women.

What are the key inspirations behind this collection?

My favorite part is the process of designing. I find inspiration in almost everything – traveling, music, books, but one of my strongest sources of inspiration is Rajasthan and Hamburg (Germany). My early memories of Rajasthan are that of my summer holidays that were spent at my grandmother’s house in Jaipur, and since then the place has occupied a very special space in my mind and heart, I’ve always been fascinated with the detailing of the architectural splendor of the state and still try to incorporate some of its elements in my creations. I have worked with some German designers in Hamburg and that inspired me to showcase my Indo Western collection.

How does Indian fashion stand out from the rest of the world?

The Indian fashion is all about creative talent, comes at a time of rapid cultural change. Indian women are being far more experimental in mixing classic designer pieces with up-and-coming names, and mixing western and homegrown influences. “These days there are no boundaries, whether in Milan or Dubai or Hamburg. I’ve even designed saris with zips so women don’t have to fumble with the fabric”.

Where do you see Indian fashion in the next five years?

I imagine we’ll see a continued democratization of fashion with high-end lines offering more inexpensive options and more involvement from a broader audience through social media and blogs.

In your opinion, how does the fashion scene of the UAE differ from the rest of the world?

UAE fashion is a mix of both traditional and International due to the sheer number of tourists coming to Dubai each year from all over the globe. In Dubai fashion trends from all of the world blend with each other very well.
